I am herewith enclosing certain information to enable us to represent to the MCI with respect to the Vision-2015 and other related matters concerning to the subject of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology.
I request you to concentrate and keep in mind the following while making any representation:
- Not to stress on the Medico-legal Post Mortem Examinations. It is not the duty of the specialists of Forensic Medicine, as WE ARE NOT THE FORENSIC PATHOLOGISTS. The General Pathologist after some training becomes the Forensic Pathologist. The Post Mortem Examinations are in the domain of the Pathologists. In countries like India the existing PATHOLOGISTS are not sufficient to deal with the clinical cases. Hence all the Basic M.B.B.S. Doctors are permitted to conduct the post mortem examinations in medico-legal cases in our Country.
- I request you to keep in mind the forgotten Clinical Forensic Medicine. Our rightful place is in the Hospital, connected with the care of the living patients.
- Non recognition of our role in the management of the clinical cases is the main cause for the present status of our Specialty.
- The subject of Toxicology, and not the Forensic Toxicology, is taught by us, as we are supposed to be the clinicians; and are expected to be dealing with these cases in the Casualty and Acute Medical Care Areas of the Hospitals.
- At present there are 314 Medical Colleges. The average reqyirement of the Post Graduate Qualified Forensic Teaching Faculty, i.e. after excluding the Totors/ Demonstrators/ Residents/Casualty Medical Officers, per college si about Four (4) only.
- The present need is not more than 1250. The projected figures in the Vision 2015 document are the intionally exacerated figures due to some ulterior motive.
Please open the enclosed files that may be helpful to you in preparation of your representations to the MCI. If we fail now to protect the interests of the specialty of FORENSIC MEDICINE, the future shall not forgive us.
I request Dr A K Srivastava, Professor & head of the Dept of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Subharti Medical College, Meerut to kindly forgive me for my failure to respond in time. It is purely unintentional, due the effect of the phenomenon of “TOMORROW”
Yours sincerely,
Dr. M. Narayana Reddy, M.D. (FM), LL.B., (LL.M. Torts & Crime)

respected sir , i want to know wheather medicine is a branch of pathology or pathology is a branch of medicine. what i mean to say that forensic pathology is a branch of forensic medicine and we should train forensic medicine personal in patology and should retain autopsy work under our department any how, for better future of subject. and please think that united states of America may be wrong in giving autopsy work to pathologist.
