Dr.V.V.Pillay: Final Frontier

Dear friends, colleagues and students,

We seem to be making real progress not only towards reinstating our cherished speciality in the UG curriculum, but strengthening its presence by enhancing relevant content, while jettisoning redundant or outdated material. Hopefully, when the final curriculum as envisaged by us (the core MCI committee for UG forensic medicine & toxicology, office bearers of IAFM, IST, SIMLA, KAMLS, etc., besides the numerous colleagues and students from across the country who have been regularly providing useful input), is approved by the honourable members of the MCI BOG, our speciality will be well entrenched in the MBBS curriculum of universities all over India in a healthier and more robust form than it ever was. However before we burst fire crackers and distribute sweets, we need to understand the following:

1. No celebrations must be indulged in by anybody until the final approved version hits the MCI website or the official gazette.
2. No litigations or protests must be organized by any individual or department, which can boomerang on our progress so far.
3. No personal attacks against each other in public forums, whatever be the cause.

Instead channel your energies in helping us (the core committee comprising Profs Devadass, Mohite, BD Gupta, PC Dikshit and myself) fine-tune the all-important document on core competency in forensic medicine and toxicology. A partly rendered document to help you with your input is attached. Do follow the same format scrupulously. This is the final frontier. On overcoming this (undoubtedly daunting task), we will be ready for the last meeting that is scheduled in a few days from now. All input (in the prescribed format only) must reach the undersigned on or before 10 March. Based on the input received we will prepare the final document for submission to the MCI UG Education Group by the weekend.
Time is short, and the water rises inexorably! Hurry!

Best regards,
V V Pillay
