sir,
I came to know through  press and media coverage that there is a proposal to delete the teaching of forensic medicine in your vision 2015 document regariding the curriculum of Medical edcucation to under graducate students of medicine. I worked as public prosecutor for 6 years and I am presently engaged in practice of law as defence advocate for the past 30 yrs. It has really given me agreat surprise that Forensic Medicine subject is going to be deleted in the MBBS syllubus and also there is aproposal for teachinbg the subject by doctors of other specialities who dont really possess the knowledge of Forensic Medicine to teach and train the students. You know frequently well that about 90% of the medicolegal work is done  at the peripheral hospitals and only about 10 % of the medicolegal work is done in the teaching institutes where the department of Forensic Medicine exists. Unless the Forensic medicine experts teach the students and guide the students to do the medicolegal work in a scientific way  and under the perview of provisions the  law, how can you think that the doctors of other specialities can teach and train the medical students about the medicolegal issues. You might be knowing that the Forensic Medicine subject is considered as one of the top most important subjects in all the developed countries. If you consider to delete the subject from UG curriculum I firmly believe that we are no way going ahead but we are dragging back to the stone age. All the leagal specialists including the senior most judges working in district courts and high courts are of the opinion that the Forensic Medicine subject should be taught by Forensic Experts only at under graduate level, other wise the doctors would not be able to issue even an MCCD( Medical Certification of Cause of Death). You might be knowing that medical certification of cause of death is the minimum basic requirement for all the doctors to issue cause  of death certificates whether the death is natural or unnatural. Unless a correct scientific medical opinion is given by the doctors in medicolegal cases it is impossible for the Hon'ble courts to pronounce the judgementin all medicolegal cases. I wish to stress the importance of teaching the Forensic Medicine subject by the Forensioc medical Experts only as it deals with a varied specific matters relating to Forensic Medicine Proper, Medical ethics, Medical Negligence cases, poisoning cases, sexual Jurisprudence etc.
If the above subject matters are taught in piecemeal, by the doctors who are not medicolegal experts the very purpose of training an under graduate medical students to be come a knowledgeble doctors will be defeated. At the end I wish to convey a message to you that  if you go ahead with the idea of deleting the teaching forensic medicine by forensic experts you are going to face alot of protest from  whole of the medical fraternity, investigating officers, practicing advocates, public prosecutors and judges. Youu may get  even a stinker from the Supreme Court leading VISION 2015 IN TO A TOTAL BLINDNESS.
thanking you sir,
B. Srinivasa Rao
