These two documents underline the facts as per the Govt of India according to which there are 754985 registered AYUSH doctors in India as on 1.1.2008. These figures significantly affect the doctor population ratios being put forth by the vision documents. We have not to blindly follow other countries as the AYUSH is a unique resource available in our country which has official backing of the goverment policy.
Further the doctor population ratio being put forward to be imitated by us has to be read with the increased costs and increased remunerations per patient by the doctors abroad. So increased doctors would definitely not mean an increased health care scenario. There is an increased emigration of young doctors seeing the saturation of opportunities here at home, which is also emphasised by the reduced applications each year for medical entrance.
Health care is not just about increasing the number of doctors per se but increasing their availability to the masses. This entails an understanding of this issue by the various state governments who must allocate adequate resources from the budget for the same and make regular recruitments to the rural/public health services cadres apart from regular and full staffing of the governemnt medical colleges. The government health services in most of the states are in shambles.....

If the vision-2015 documents are not well referenced then at least we should have our suggestions ready with proper underlying facts.
