Thanks for coordinating against the BOG MCI move to wipe out Forensic Medicine from medical curriculum. It is not affecting Forensic Medicine much if few chapters are integrated with other subjects, but it is more important who will teach and evaluate Forensic Medicine. I am surprised to know that learned experts in MCI are not much aware about the Forensic Medicine and its involvement in medicolegal works. Most of them are clinicians and try to look whole curriculum by clinical glasses. On one hand they proposed Ethics & Legal Medicine as elective and on the other hand Professionalism and Ethics in all the 4 years from 1st to final year. Comment on whole proposal can't be given without reading annexures.. I have tried to search them but failed. If you have please e-mail to aksformed@yahoo.co.in Regarding evaluation it is impractical & painful for students to appear directly in final year and at the end of internship. In my opinion there should be yearly examination. Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry should be evaluated at the end of 1st year & Pathology, Microbiology & Pharmacology at the end of 2nd year. The teaching of Forensic Medicine should be started in IVth semester & evaluated with Eye, ENT & Family Medicine in 3rd year and rest of the subjects in final year. Of course some basics of pre & para clinical subjects must be asked in 3,4 &5th examinations. Forensic Medicine should be developed as regular and important clinical discipline (not only for medicolegal & postmortem examination) by looking administrative control of casualty and total management of poisoning cases in hospital Dr A K Srivastava Professor & Head, Forensic Medicine Subharti Medical College Meerut Cell: 09456662818 |
